The storm known as the “Blizzard of ‘78” swept away Henry Beston’s Outermost House during the monster nor’easter on Feb. 6-7, 1978. In this video from the HB Society, Cape Cod essayist Robert Finch, novelist William Martin, “Journey to Outermost House” author Nan Turner Waldron, radio newsman Bob Seay, writer/photographer Noel Beyle, former CCNS Ranger Jack Clarke, and former Eastham Natural Resources Officer Henry Lind offer their thoughts on the demise of the Fo’castle, a Cape Cod icon.
The segment features footage from the archives of the Henry Beston Society, the Cape Cod Writers Center, and WCVB-TV in Boston; and photographs from the Beston Society, the Cape Cod National Seashore and the Eastham Historical Society.
